In the first two days after birth, your baby will have only one or two wet diapers per day. After that, you can be confident that your baby is getting enough
breast milk if:
**He has 6-8 really wet cloth diapers (5-6 disposable diapers) and 2-5 bowel movements per day and is receiving nothing but your
breast milk- no supplemental water or formula.
BREAST
MILK IS BEST!!!!
**He is gaining weight at an average of 4-8 ounces a week or about 1-2 pounds per month in the first 3-4 months. From 4-6 months, average weight gain for the breastfed baby is 3-5 ounces per week; from 6-12 months, average gain is 1 to 1 1/2 to 3 ounces per week.
**At your baby's first checkup, weight gain should be determined from the lowest weight the baby reached rather than his birth weight. Most babies lose 5-7 percent of their birth weight and may take 2-3 weeks to regain their birth weight.
DON'T
GIVE UP! BREAST MILK IS THE WAY TO GO FOR YOUR BABY.....
**He is breastfeeding frequently and is satisfied after each feeding. Most newborns
breastfeed every 2-3 hours or breastfeed 8-12 times in a 24 hour period. This is an average, and some babies may
breastfeed less frequently while others breastfeed more often.
**He appears healthy-has good color and resilient skin, and is filling out and growing in length, and is alert and active with good muscle tone.
